Carlisle Hornets are predominantly a social side, with many of the team having previously played at higher levels of rugby union or rugby league.

In 2008/2009, the Hornets finished top of the league in the Cumbria shield, after another successful season combining the social and playing elements of rugby.

One of our key roles is the development of young players coming through the club.

Playing for the Hornets gives young players the opportunity to experience the physicality of the game at senior level with experienced players to give advice and encouragement when needed.

Carlisle Hornets went on tour to Dublin during the Six Nations  2009. We enjoyed a round robin event hosted by Old Belvedere and a touring side from Montpellier, France.

This resurrected a tradition of Hornets tours which in the past has included Lincoln, Magaluf and Prague.

It is hoped there will be many more tours in the future to continue this opportunity to be a part of the wider rugby community.
