Saturday, 27th September – Candy League

Tynedale, strengthened by the inclusion of their 1st XV skipper at number 8 were just too powerful for what on paper was a strong Carlisle side.  Competition for 1st XV slots saw Glen Weightman and Matt Rogers in the Crusaders and both had good games.  Weightman’s mixture of passing and kicking kept the Hexham outfit alert for the full 80 minutes because it was his good movement of the ball that released that veteran, Martin Plummer, a smart pop pass having drawn the cover defence for Plummer to hand off his opposite centre before scoring the only try for the city second string.  Weightman converted.

The Warwick Road side kept the moral high ground throughout the game and kept going to the end, with some uncharacteristic missed tackles around the fringes making the socreline flatter the visitors somewhat.

There were a lot of positives to take into the next training session in readiness of the visit to Morpeth next week!
