A dogged but inexperienced Wigton team were no match for Carlisle’s veteran under 10s. The away side came out on top in each quarter of the game and scored some blistering individual tries but it was a far from perfect performance by Carlisle, with Wigton’s strong forwards dominating for long periods, showing great strength and determination in their driving mauls which Carlisle found hard to handle.

Virtually all Carlisle’s tries were individual breakaway efforts and the team showed a marked reluctance to exploit their extra pace by passing the ball to each other – more work on the training ground next week! However there were some good performance.  George Hollings kept his usual cool head at fly half  and grabbed three tries into the bargain. Luke Finney again showed real aggression in the pack and he too was rewarded with two tries, whilst back from injury Sam Low marked his return at centre with another brace.

Man of the match though went to a Wigton player – Alastair Gaitskell – who showed exceptional leadership and determination in defeat –  scoring his sides only try after a period of concerted pressure on the Carlisle line.
