The Lakeland Referees Society are rightly concerned about alleged abuse of their members. Remember, without the referee there will be no game!  As a player, official or supporter, we may not agree with what the referee does or says, but that it is not an excuse to abuse him verbally or physically.

The referee goes out on the field to enjoy a game and to see that fair play prevails.  Therefore, to be called a “cheat” is, understandably, very offensive.

This timely reminder is issued without prejudice and is published following receipt of two circulars from the society.  Copies of the circulars can be found on this website if you wish to know more about what they have to say.

Carlisle RFC do not condone any form of abuse directed at referees, and in the unhappy event that such behaviour occurs at Warwick Road (or anywhere else where a team representing the Club is playing), then the Club will not hesitate to take decisive action against anyone accused and proved guilty of such conduct AND for whom the Club are responsible.

There is a shortage of referees, and if there is anyone out there who feels they would like to take up the whistle, then please get in touch with an official of the Lakeland Referee Society.
