Matt Shields who was captain of Carlisle under 16 side last season, was successful on Sunday, 30th November when he attended the North of England trials.  His success means he will play for the North and also progresses to to the England selection weekend on 13th / 14th December.

It will be a busy time for young Matt because on 17th December he will play for the North of England Academies against the current England under 18’s.

Currently on a scholarship at Sedbergh School, Matt is a credit to his family, school and club and doubtless he will apply the same dedication in his efforts to attain and retain national representative honours.

It just goes to show that with good guidance, support and determination, the “ultimate” is achieveable from the backwoods of Cumbria!  Quality always shines through!

Carlisle RFC are proud to be associated with Matt’s development and wish him all possible success in his endeavours.

Opposing front rows – beware!
