Carlisle Colts 28 Northern Colts 8

Carlisle made it three wins from three in 2009 with a comprehensive win over a resurgent Northern in the Saturday Colts league. The visitors were strong and determined and scored first with a try from strong forwards running. But Carlisle came back strongly and Aidan Hermeston touched down following a blindside move from a scrum; Steven Benson converted. A great break from the halfway by centre Karem Moulem saw him go all the way for the second try, again converted by Benson for a 14-5 half-time lead.

In the second Carlisle began to play the offloading game they have been working hard on in training and its effectiveness was immediately obvious. Tom Martin went over for a try following great support work throughout the team early in the second half which Benson converted for a 21-5 advantage. Nothern continued to battle gamely and reduced arrears with a penalty, but Carlisle continued to dominate and Moulem added a second try for himself and fourth team score to seal the win and an impressive start to 2009 for the Carlisle Colts.
