11th March 2009

What a final game of the season! Sunderland were touring, and arrived with a large and very strong team……and an equally large contingent of Rolf Harris’s as vocal support!

The whole game was played fast and hard, with the first points on the board 3 minutes after kick off from a penalty typically well taken by Macca.

Sunderland immediately scored a try at the other end, which they duly converted, then followed up 7 minutes later with another unconverted try.

Thankfully our lads fought back well, and another 7 minutes later Adam had a fantastic run, to score under the posts. Macca duly converted.

It was end to end stuff, desperately fought mid field, but at 28 minutes Sunderland sneaked in another try, thankfully unconverted.

Half-time   Carlisle 10  – Sunderland 17

Both sides came back fighting for the second half, with a quick penalty taken by Macca. He was taken off with what looked to be stud injury in a very delicate position, so when JT scored a superb try up the left hand side 6 minutes later, poor Henry was left with an impossible attempt for a conversion.

Back to the other end again and Sunderland got another quick, but unconverted try 6 minutes later.

Macca was back on for Carlisle’s final brilliant try by Jordie C, and although it remained unconverted, the game was won by 1 point!

It was a very good team game, lots of good running and passing rugby, very entertaining for all to watch. A well-deserved win, and a great end to a good season.
