CUMBRIA V NORTH MIDLANDS

Workington, 9th May 2009

The County Chmpionship stage of the season is upon us and three Carlisle players featured in key positions in the Cumbria team that entertained North Midlands at Workington on Saturday, 9th May 2009.

Steve Stamper (loose head prop), Matt Charters (open side flank) and Chris Harris (outside centre), all played well.  However, Harris was particularly noticeable on his senior county debut at 18 years of age.  He has had a meteoric rise in senior rugby.   This is his first season of senior rugby, having missed only one match for the club senior XV and he has also featured in the county under 20’s.

Harris crowned his county senior debut with a try, although it was not quite enough to win the game, with the visitors just sneaking the result.

As a result of playing in this match, Matt Charters now qualifies for the award of his county cap.  Congratulations – a well deserved honour for a great lad both on and off the field.

Former Carlisle hooker, Joe Graham, now playing national rugby with Tynedale also played a prominent part in the game.
