Road works on Warwick Road
July 29, 2009 by admin
Members are advised to take note of the forthcoming road works on Warwick Road, and the affect that this will have on access to the club premises.
Commencing on 4th August, Warwick Road will be closed completely between Broad Street and Greystone Road for up to six weeks to allow for the installation of a new sewer system, something that is necessary following the serious floods of 2005.
We know all about the floods, and whilst there will be substantial inconvenience getting to the club, we welcome the work in the knowledge that it will help to prevent a repetition of the devastation that wrecked the our premises in 2005.
Allow extra time to get to the club - especially on match days - and keep your eyes peeled on the local press and radio for updates. Although the press release from United Utilities, who are doing the work, says that access to premises along the affected stretch of Warwick Road, will be allowed, don’t take it for granted. Past experience of tells us that will not necessarily be the case.

Junior & Youth AGM
July 21, 2009 by admin
Filed under Latest News, Youth General
The junior and youth section held their AGM at the Club on Wednesday15th July.
The club chairman of rugby, Martin Plummer, and the club secretary, David Morton, attended.
Thanks were expressed to Moira Fisher for her hard work during her year as secretary of the section. As a farmer’s wife, it could be said that Moira “took the bull by the horn’s” with her unfussy efficiency, by keeping everyone up to date and ensuring that all matters were dealt with promptly.
The Club are grateful for the excellent work she has done, and very grateful for her efforts. Moira stood down at the meeting due to the pressure of other committments. In fairness though, she did say when she took up her appointment, that would only be for one year.
Although another secretary has been appointed, again it is only as an interim measure until we can find someone who is happy to give a longer term committment.
With Ian Scott already chairman (having been nominated by the Rugby Committee), and although the terms of reference for the Junior & Youth Section do not provide for a vice chairman, it was clearly the wish of the meeting that there should be a vice chairman of the section. The club secretary agreed to arrange for alterations to be made for the necessary changes to be reflected in the terms of reference.
Appointments:
Vice Chairman - BARRY ISRAEL
Secretary - FIONA TAYLOR
Fixture Secretary - BARRY ISRAEL
Registration Officer - BARRY ISRAEL
Press Officer - STEVE PARK
Welfare Officer - SUE SCOTT (subject to her agreeing to continue – on holiday at time of meeting)
Fund Raising / Sponsorship - SUE GLENDINNNING
Other representatives on the committee will be one person from each age group.

Rugby Club Car Parking
July 21, 2009 by admin
Major repairs to the car park at Warwick Road will shortly be under way.
It is hoped that the majority of the work can be done before the start of the season, with the final “dressing” being pout down in May next year. The reason for that is, that the material used can only be laid in May - something to do with the weather. Once done, the car park should be fit for purpose for about 20 – 25 years.
Work is also under way for a 6′ strip of tarmac footpath along the length of perimeter fencing on the granstand side of the ground. Hopefully, this will make it more comfortable for spectators in inclement weather.
There are some important changes concerning future use of the car park. We have always allowed week day parking from Monday to Friday for members; and non active members of the club have also been allowed to use facility on payment of an annual subscription. From 1st September 2009, that arrangement will cease.
People coming to use the facilities of the rugby and squash clubs, and to attend social events, will still be able to park as normal for the duration of their visit. But, for those wanting to leave their vehicles on the club car park whilst they are elsewhere, will be required to purchase a CONTRACT PARKING TICKET.
The cost will be £200 for a twelve month period from the date of issue. This will allow long stay parking from Monday to Friday between the hours of 0800 and 1800. For anyone who thinks the cost is a bit steep, then it works our at less than 80p a day - considerably cheaper than the cost of long stay parking elesewhere in the city.
In the current economic climate we need to find new ways of generating income and hopefully “punters” will appreciate the need for the club to take the steps proposed.
Please be aware that anyone found abusing the system, wheel clamps will be used and there will be a £50 release charge.

Fixture Cards
July 20, 2009 by admin

Members should note that, for the 2009 – 2010 season, there will be no issue of the usual small fixture booklet.
As most of you will know, the fixtures for the second half of the season for the Crusaders, and some of the Hornets games, are not known until Christmas.
It was felt that it would uneconomic to print the booklets in these circumstances. Up to date fixture lists for all sides can be found on this website.
Hopefully too, the lists on the Club noticeboard will help those wanting a regular update.

Membership 2009-2010

Membership renewal forms will shortly be sent out for the new season and the Club would appreciate a prompt response in returning completed forms, together with a stamped, self addressed envelope.
On receipt of completed forms, together with a cheque for £20, you will be issued with a Membership Card for the new season.
In the event that you require a parking permit for our car park, you will need to supply details of the make and registration number of your car.
Remember, your Membership Card is a valuable document, because without it, you will not be able to obtain discount at the bar.
This year, and for the first time, the junior and youth section will have their own Membership Card.
New windscreen permit holders have been obtained and these are durable enough to last for several years. To help our administrative processes, rugby and squash members will be issued with different coloured parking permits, and these will be changed annually.
If it is more convenient, you can download the notes and an application form for a car park permit.
You are also asked to provide us with your e mail address so that, in future, we can contact you by e mail, and help to save on postage costs.
Your co-operation will be very much appreciated.
