North 1 East League
Saturday, 17th October 2009

The Warwick Road side are still pointless on their travels after this disappointing fixture.  It all seems a re-run of last season when the city side made a slow start to the campaign before eventually getting their act together for a respectable league position.

Looking at the topsy turvy results throughout the league, it is clear that there are only two consistent teams, with the remaining twelve still trying to find a formula that will improve their lot.

No one is making excuse; in any event excuses wear thin eventually and the reality is that Carlisle are still in a developmental process with a lot of young and inexperienced lads learning their trade.  Disappointing though it is, everyone will have to be patient.  Throwing money at it is not the answer, and in any event the club would not want to be part of the modern rat race that sees many clubs paying ludicrous money against the rules to a lot of players few of whom, if any, are properly contracted as required by the RFU.

Their hosts on Saturday, Gateshead, have an indifferent start to the season and the difference between the two teams on the day was consistency!  Gateshead looked confident for an hour before Carlisle seized the initiative for the remainder of the game when they added a couple of tries, both from full back Chris Harris.

With a bit more luck in the closing period they could have added another four tries but luck was not on their side.
