Form the outset Carlisle were the stronger of the two teams at Morpeth today putting on probably their best team display of the season so far: the fixture started lively with Carlisle missing a try scoring opportunity within the first five minutes, this was to be rectified shortly afterwards when Kyle Fisher ran the ball down the wing to cross the line in the corner, the conversion was missed but Carlisle were on the scoreboard.

The Carlisle forwards  were quickly stamping their authority on the match, and the backs too were moving the ball well with good forward movement through the two centres; it was not long before Carlisle wing Rory Duncan scored Carlisle’s second try, which this time was converted by Steve Benson taking the score to 0 v 12. The floodgates opened with Carlisle adding a further 19 points during the remainder of the first half through Ross Allan, Kyle Fisher and Steve Benson, who also converted two of the three. The second half continued in much the same vein with the strong Carlisle pack dominating most aspects of the game. A well worked Carlisle move from a line-out  just outside the Morpeth twenty-two resulted in another score. Three more would follow with Steve Benson converting two of the four. Try scorers in the second half Carl Robertson, Ross Allan, Kieron Little and James Rocke.

So what went right for Carlisle? Well a number of things spring to mind, but the main factor was everyone on the field played for each other today: support play was excellent throughout the game, and those players out of, or new to, positions played with a responsibility ensuring that team remained strong in all areas. This said Morpeth played their part in making it a great day for the spectator they also made us all very welcome following the game.
