After the final whistle for the Carlisle v Gateshead match on 24th, April, a new memorial bench was enrolled at Warwick Road.
The young volunteer group at the Warwick Road Club raised £800 to provided a hand made bench in memory of Private David Murray of the Parachute Regiment, and Raymond Higgins, a Hornets player who died shortly after playing a game of rugby for the Club.
Guests were welcomed by chairman of rugby, Martin Plummer, and Ben Blain, the club VRugby Activator, thanked his band of volunteers who had helped to organise events to raise funds for the bench.
Blain said, “I hope that everyone, but particularly the relatives and friends of both Dave and Ray, find that this is a fitting memorial and that they will be able to use it whilst reflecting on their memories of Dave and Ray”.
The bench will be sited so that those using it will be able to watch rugby.
