A fiercly contested under 13s final saw Penrith take an early lead with a try by Euan Norris. Penrith sustained the pressure but staunch defending from Carlisle held them out before the first of Elliott Baines’ tries, converted by James Spencer, put Carlisle back in the game.

The rest of the first half was very even with tremendous amounts of hard work put in by both sets of forwards in a real test of pack strength. Both sets of backs were keen to play open rugby whenever they got the ball which was very entertaining for the crowd.

With very little separating the two sides, a clever attacking kick bounced kindly for Elliott Baines to score his second and James Spencer converted to take it to 14 – 5 right on the stroke of half time.
An early second half Carlisle try by Luke Robinson, opened up a gap that Penrith fought hard to close before Duncan Hill broke free to score a fourth Carlisle try which was again converted by James Spencer. Penrith’s efforts and real determination to remain competetive saw Euan Norris double his points tally with a second try which James Boustead converted. This try lifted the Penrith spirits and they put together some really good running rugby which was halted only by Carlisle’s determined defense and tackling to hold out for the victory ending a splendid game of which both teams should be very proud.
