A glorious spring morning saw the visit of the Zebras for this joint County Cup semi final / league clash.

Workington were quicker out of the blocks, and soon had the home defence under pressure.

A good kick cleared the lines however, and this led to a succession of line-outs in the visitors’ half.

On the five-minute mark, good hands from Carlisle’s back line saw Tom Ebbatson clear to score right in the corner.

Mike Fearon hit the post with a great conversion effort from the touchline.

Workington fought back strongly, with good work from their pack and a succession of rolling mauls making good ground.

Again a good kick relieved the pressure and put the visitors on the back foot.

A spell of several Carlisle phases finally saw Ben Fisher force his way over for the second try.

Carlisle continued to dominate, and a typical direct run from Adam Robertson saw him produce a great miss pass to Jordie Clement, who in turn found Tom Ebbatson on the wing for the third try.

Again the Zebras fought back strongly, and Carlisle received numerous warnings from the referee for indiscipline.

Workington camped in the home 22 for several phases, before another good kick from man of the match Ryan Ivers sent Tom Ebbatson galloping away only to be caught by a last gasp tackle inside the Workington 22…….
