The drizzle and mist did nothing to dampen the spirits of Carlisle U9s in their efforts to mount a challenge on this year’s Alnwick Festival.
Carlisle started with a bang, when scrum half Charlie Skeer scored with the first move of the tournament against Ponteland. Dominic Sutton and Skeer adding a second made it 3-0 at half time. Ponteland fought back in the second half, but Jake Whittaker broke free to make the final score 4-0. Next up was Alnwick B team. Resilient defence from both teams meant that the half time score was 0-0, before Skeer, Whittaker and Sutton all finished off excellent runs in the second half to win the match 3-0. Morpeth were the final opponents in the group stage and provided an even bigger challenge matching Carlisle’s speed and tackling. A try each for Sutton, Skeer and Whittaker proved enough to win the game 3-2 and meant that Carlisle progressed to the knock out semi-final stage as winners of Group B…….
