The wind blew hard, but that did not put off a valiant attempt at winning the Aspatria Rugby Festival. Carlisle under-10s, bolstered by a host of under-nine players came in as runnner’s up, losing only one game – 4-2 to eventual winners Egremont with Gregory Baines scoring both tries.
The boys then went on to beat Keswick 5-4 (tries from Jake Whittaker 2, Charlie Skeer, Dominic Sutton and Baines); Upper Eden 7-1 (Alex Hodgkinson 4, Baines 3); Aspatria 6-0 (Baines 4, Hodgkinson 2); Cockermouth 5-4 (Baines 2, Whittaker 2 and Hodgkinson) and Millom 7-0 (Whittaker 3, Baines 2, Bobby Ward and Rory Mills).
Lawrie Wilson & Oliver Ord deserve a mention for their contribution to a great driving and mauling game, whilst Mills, Whittaker and Hodgkinson also deserve mention for their tireless defensive work and non-stop tackling in what was a very tiring but exciting festival.
