There was a large turnout of players on 9th May for the Carlisle RFC Youth presentation day.
Coaches and parents attended to celebrate the achievements of the youth section squads in the season just ended. The afternoon started with squad photographs, and the opening of a variety of stalls and activities manned by representatives from the various squads, including a well stocked cake stall, the wet sponge stocks, a bottle stall, a kicking challenge game, and a tombola stall with a rugby ball signed by the Newcastle Falcons playing squad as the star prize.
Our Chairman of Rugby, Martin Plummer, then proceeded to summarise the considerable achievements our squads have attained this year. Our squads from under 13 year onwards all progressed to their respective County Cup finals, with the under 13’s, and under 15’s becoming County Cup winners, our under 16’s drawing their final, and the under 14’s just narrowly being defeated in theirs.
The under 14’s and under 15’s ended their season on a high at the recently held Darlington festival, where the under 14’s won their competition and also the Fair play award, and the under 15’s won their age group Fair play award with an unprecedented perfect score. The younger squads were no less competitive with the under 9’s narrowly losing in the final of the Alnwick 7’s, the under 10’s being runners up in the Aspatria festival, and the under 12’s winning the Tynedale 7’s plate and just missing out in the Alnwick Bowl competition.
Martin congratulated the players and coaches alike for their enthusiasm and commitment to the sport, and commented on how well this bodes for the future of the club given the healthy state of the youth section.
Players were then presented with achievement medals by our guest of honour, RFU Gold award winner, under 14’s coach, and 1st team player, Ben Blain.
Players from the Under 11’s, 13’s, 14’s, and 15’s were also presented with individual awards in recognition of their progress, achievements, and commitment to the sport throughout the season.

Shortly afterwards the annual fun run, organised by Carl Spencer, took place with keen competitive spirit shown by young and old alike.
Many thanks to the under 14’s squad who ran the tuck shop and the BBQ, including our Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Youth Section, Ian Scott and Barry Israel.
Many thanks also to all those who took part, helped organise, ran stalls, donated prizes, and bought tickets. All the proceeds go towards running the youth section.
Volunteers are always welcome to help out across all the squads, and it would be good to see some new faces in the forthcoming season. The club are committed to ensuring volunteers gain the necessary coaching qualifications to support the squads, and are intending to run a level 1 coaching course at the end of the summer, details of which can be obtained from Martin Plummer.
The Youth section wish all a pleasant summer break and look forward to seeing you all for registration for the new season on Sunday the 5th September.
