The club General Committee is made up of 12 members who are as follows:


Has been Honorary Secretary of the Club since July 2007, having previously been the Match & Fixture Secretary for 14 years.  A former police officer, he is married to Ann and they have two sons and a grand-daughter and live in north Carlisle. David is also the Honorary Secretary of the Cumbria RFU Discipline Committee.

Martin Plummer


Martin is the Chairman of Rugby at  Carlisle RFC and until recently was a regular in the centre for the 1st XV of which he was the skipper for seven years before taking over from Tony Hargreaves to lead on rugby.

Martin lives in the city with wife, Emma.

John Tiffen


John is the Club President and has had a life time of assocaition with the Club, firstly as an oustanding (scrum half (his words!), and then involved in committee work.  He is married man and lives in Scotby with wife Barbara and until he went into semi – retirement he was a prominent estate agent in the city.

He has also served as the President of Cumbria RFU and until this year was chairman of their executive committee for several years.

Alan Hodgson


The Honorary Treasurer, is an accountant with a well known local motor dealership and has a wide experience of financial matters.

Alan is a married man and lives in the northern suburbs of the city, and has three children and a tribe of grandchildren!

Tony Hargreaves


Is a longstanding member of the General Committee and was for many years, the Chairman of Rugby before handing over to Martin Plummer.  He remains a member of the Rugby Committee and acts as the secretary.  Prior to retirement Tony was the Deputy Director of Education for Cumbria County Council.  He is marrieds to Margaret and resides in the city (when he’s not on a regular jaunt to France).

David Burnett


Has been connected with the Club for many years and as well as being a member of the General Committee he heads up the House & Grounds Committee as Chairman.  As a local solicitor he is well qualified to act as legal advisor to the Club.  David is married with three adult children.  Loved for his many eccentricities, he lives on the western outskirts of Carlisle at Kirkandrews.

Steve Stamper


Is the Club Captain and 1st XV skipper and after being educated at Bradford University he eventually returned to his home city where he is employed in the family business as a property developer.  He resides in Carlisle.

David Rawling


Lives at Dalston and is a retired businessman and as well as being a member of the General Committee, he is the Referee Contact for senior rugby. He is married with a son and a daughter, with the former still playing for the Hornets XV.

Ian Scott


Represents Junior & Youth Rugby on the General Committee and is also the Chairman of the Junior & Youth Section of the Club.  In addition Ian, who is a management executive with the Cumbria County Council, heads up the kitchen team on a Sunday morning to feed all the youngsters (and their parents).  He is married to Sue (the Club Welfare Officer) and they have a teenage family – one of whom is draining his pocket at university!

David Atkinson


This (apparently) studious gentleman who is a Life Member of the Club is a retired BT engineer and as well as being a member of the General Committee he also acts as the House Manager reporting to the House & Grounds Committee.  He is single and lives in the east of the city.

Paul Grealish


Is the newest member of the General Committee and this is in addition to his duties as the 1st XV manager.  Paul, a recently retired adult education lecturer, is married with two sons and a daughter and lives in Carlisle.  Rugby runs in the family as his son Martin, as well being in the Carlisle 1st XV squad, works as the Assistant Rugby Development Officer for the Copeland District of Cumbria.

Marti Errington-Dodds


Is a member of the General Committee and also plays for the Ladies XV – Carlisle Cougars.

She was educated at schools and college in the Carlisle area and now works for ITV Border at their Durranhill studio, and her dulcet tones can often be heard on Border “Crack & Deekabout” (Border News & Lookaround).  At the moment Marti is in a steady relationship.

Bill Swarbrick


Is the Chairman of the General Committee as well as the Head Chef in the kitchen!  Bill has wide adminstrative experience and before retiring he was the Chief Executive of the Cumbria County Council.  Bill, who is a Deputy Lord Lieutenant of the county, is married to Catherine and lives in the city. They have a son and a daughter.
