A really close run game on 17th October, saw Carlisle under 14s beaten at the last by a very strong Ponteland side.
Carlisle had started very well with an early try from Yousef Sahib that saw him using strength and pace to get into the corner in the first few minutes. Sam Windess repeated the feat after 15 minutes to take Carlisle into a 10 point lead.
Ponteland used the size and strength of their pack to mount a fight back but Carlisle held the lead at half time. Ponteland continued to play a very strong forwards game which finally paid off just after half time with a try right in the corner.
A splendid conversion saw the gap closed to 3 points. Both sides played on in an open and attractive way before Carlisle finally capitalised from the breakdown when Angus Fulton picked up and used his strength to go past three players to score between the posts.
James Spencer converted. Ponteland came straight back and scored two tries within a few minutes, the conversion of one of them being enough to give them a very slim lead. Carlisle mounted several attacks but despite their best efforts, Ponteland held on to the two point advantage to see the game out with a victory.
Result: 17 v 19
