Carlisle U13’s hosted Tynedale at Warwick Road on Sunday 14th November and suffered a home defeat loosing 35 – 12 in what proved to be a tough contest.
The large Tynedale forwards proved to be strong in the scrums and the rucks and it was Carlisle’s inability to win the ball consistently when it went to ground that ultimately put them on the back foot. There was plenty of good Rugby though.
Tynedale went ahead twice early in the first half by controlling the rucks and then running the ball out wide and around the Carlisle defence. They failed to convert and Carlisle responded by driving the visitors back into their own half for the remainder of the first half which then resulted in second row Harry Powell driving over for his first try for months after returning from injury.
Persistant work saw more discipline in the ruck to release No.8, Will Robson, who carried the ball over for Carlisle’s second, which Struan Kyle converted.
The second half started with hope for Carlisle, but indifferent tackling & more lost ball in the rucks meant they allowed Tynedale back into the game to run 3 more unconverted tries in to seal the home side’s defeat.
Tynedale caught Carlisle on an off day on Sunday – back to the training ground!
Result: 12 v 35
Half time score: 12 v 20
