Carlisle U13’s put in another brilliant performance to draw against a formidable Blaydon side at Gateshead on Sunday.
Blaydon had not lost a game all season and for periods during this encounter the visitors looked like they were were going to pull off a victory. In the end they had to settle for a 17 – 17 draw.
The game was a tough encounter with both sides evenly matched, but Carlisle had the home side pegged back in their own half for most of the 1st half. It took 16 minutes before the visitors got to within inches of the try line following superb rooking & recycling of the ball, allowing forward Ghazn Kahn to drive over & open the scoring and Struan Kyle converted.
Despite Carlisle maintaining posession in the Blaydon half, the home side eventually ran the ball out wide and one of the strong Blaydon centres ran in a try from deep in the their own half, which they also converted.
Carlisle persevered and just before half time scrum half James Telford picked up the ball from another rook close to the blaydon line, to drive home Carlisle’s second.
Early in the 2nd half, forward Max Graham scored Carlisle’s 3rd, driving over from a penalty and for a while both sides were evenly matched playing some good, hard rugby. However two strong runs out wide from within their own half saw the Blaydon centres once again open up the Carlisle defence to run in 2 more tries, which weren’t converted and so the game ended in a draw.
Great game of Rugby.
