Carlisle under 14s took on Percy Park on 21st November, a team who have always given a good account of themselves whenever thay have met.
Carlisle started really well and within the first three minutes took the lead when Elliott Baines used his pace to break down the wing and touch down. Sam Windess added a second a few minutes later in similar fashion and Elliott Baines grabbed a second to make it 21-0 thanks to conversions from James Spencer.
This woke the Percy Park lads up and they stormed back with some very powerful forwards play scoring three tries without response despite Carlisle’s valiant defensive efforts. Two missed conversions kept a 21 – 17 home lead before Harry Grant chipped a delightful kick over the defense for Elliott Baines to beat the defence and score again.
Half time arrived with Carlisle 26 – 17 to the good. Percy Park kept up their efforts and got a try to close the gap before Sam Windess ended up showing strength and pace on the wing to keep Carlisle ahead. Park kept going really well and were rewarded with a further try but sterling work in the centre of the pitch held the line.
George Sims, David Anderson, Ben McKean and Duncan Hill were worthy of mention for their work rate in the tackles which eventually allowed Sam Windess to complete his hattrick; James Spencer scored a wonderful solo effort from a penalty and Elliott Baines took a fourth after a chip and chase. Good kicking from James Spencer saw the final score 52 – 27 in Carlisle’s favour.
Result: 52 v 27
Half time score: 26 v 17
