After a two week break due to inclement weather it was nice to get back to game time, even with the slight chill, as we ventured to old rivals Tynedale, who were enjoying a reasonable start to the season.

Dale had a splattering of new faces form last season fixture & this strengthened the starting 15 considerably.

Carlisle travelling with a squad of 20 alas with only one recognised prop in Ryan Little, so a coin toss, draw straws & anyone with a 9 in his date of birth were considered for the vacant shirt.

Game on & with the bus blues out of the way having travelled in cars ! ! could this be our secret weapon as 10 mins in & we were 12-0 up with tries from Freddie Campbell Graham & debutant Joe Bradley with a conversion from Brett Connon, both tries after some excellent forward work before moving the ball to our pace men, with both James Robson & Jason Israel making telling contributions.

Comfortable ? spoke too early as a lack of concentration allowed Tynedale something of a gifted try with the conversion added so half time at 12-7.

Turn round came & the hope of not such a stop start affair.

Away we go with the sound`s of back to basics & stick with our game plan ringing in the guys ears, our ball retention improved, yet two more monetary slips allowed Dale 14 more points but not before we had added 28 of our own with tries from Freddie again, Jake Mangan,Greg Graham & Tom Coulthard, with Brett converting all of these to make the final score 40-21, taking Carlisle to 7 from 7.

This groups still has a long way to go, but the fitness levels are being maintained thanks to the effort of Ben Blain assisted by Tom Graham & Mike Davidson, plus our drills & skills work continue to pay off.

Special mention for this weekend to Jason Israel Jake Mangan Henry Wianwright & Ryan Little to name a few but a good all-round performance without really stretching themselves. Why higher honours have not come calling for some of the guys bewilders me, still others loss & all that, maybe the visual angel works wonders.

Thanks to all the parents for the support not just on Sunday but the whole season so far. (plus the use of own transport)

To the lads, don’t think for one minute I will get off your backs but every week is a pleasure to be around you.

Keep turning up & keep working hard.

Result:            40 v 21
