James Merton, a 19 year old flanker or number eight has recently signed for Carlisle from Team Northumbria.

Hand_off_imageHe is a contemporary of Grant Connon at Northumbria University, and was born at Hornchurch in Essex.

Despite his age, Merton is an accomplished player.  He had an outing for the Crusaders recently when they eclipsed Leigh by 17 pts to 7 pts at Warwick Road.  His registration didn’t come through in time for the away league trip to Old Crocs.  If it had, he would wouldn’t have suffered the double fracture of the jaw that was his misfortune.

Spies report that he was outstanding in the match with Leigh before he had to leave the field.

Merton will be out for a few weeks with a double jaw fracture that needed a metal plate to help with the repair.

We look forward to his recovery and increasing the competition for places in the back row!

Cold continues

The weather looks as though it will continue to wreak havoc with the rugby programme.  Although there is no report yet from Pontefract yet, it seem unlikely that there will be a fixture in Yorkshire on 4th December.

The Crusaders home game with Fylde also looks to be in doubt.
