After a six week lay off and despite very cold conditions, Carlisle under 14s finally returned to action this week with a superb and hard fought victory over Kirby Lonsdale.
Both teams were fiercely competitive and ignored snow on the ground to produce a fast paced game. Carlisle took an early lead with Elliott Baines’ try and James Spencer’s conversion. George Sims grabbed a second with Yousef Sahib giving a 17 – 0 lead before Kirby fought back with two fairly quick tries.
Just before half time James Coulthard scored a fourth try – something he has waited a long time to do – giving a half time lead of 22 – 10. Kirby closed the gap after the break with a well run try but two second half tries for Sam Windess, one of which was a fantastic example of strength, speed and determination, began a second half domination. Duncan Hill got one and a second for Yousef Sahib plus 2 conversions gave Carlisle a deserved 46 – 22 victory thanks to strong work through the middle from the pack and some lovely wide play from the backs. Kirby did add a fourth try to their total but it was too late to build a comeback
Result: 46 v 22
Half time score: 22 v 10
