Carlisle U13’s hosted Penrith in the County Cup at Warwick Road on Sunday and in a tight game pulled off a fine 26 to 17 win.
Carlisle scored first with a strong run from second row Harry Powell and shortly after Fly Half Struan Kyle broke free down the right wing to put Carlisle two tries ahead. Kyle converted both. A very strong and determined Penrith pack took control in the rucks and eventually their perseverance paid off with two unconverted tries just before the break.
The second half saw the Penrith forwards starting to dominate again & Penrith’s third followed from a clean break through the Carlisle defence, which was duly converted. Carlisle did not give in and solid tackling and rucking eventually released the ball out to the backs and Kyle once again ran wide on the left wing.
A penalty try was awarded for an infringement as he kicked towards the try line. Late in the second half Kyle chased down his kick from deep in the Carlisle half and with help from Powell carried the ball over the line for the home side’s fourth try, which was converted.
A very tough game and a great team effort by the whole Carlisle squad.
