The U13s travelled to Tynedale RFC on Sunday 20th March with a depleted squad of only 14 boys, due to drop offs and despite a spirited performance lost 27 – 5.
In the first half Carlisle were unable to capitalise on several mistakes from the home side which saw a number of penalties and scrums awarded in their favour, also some ineffective passing in the backs resulted in little penetration of the Tynedale defence. Tynedale won a number of scrums against the head, which eventually saw the first of 3 first half tries scored from open running Rugby. One was converted.
The second half saw a much better performance from Carlisle, with much better rucking and for most of the half Carlisle had Tynedale pegged back in their own territory. A soft try from Tynedale was followed by an inventive tap through from Fly Half Stuan Kyle which nearly resulted in a try.
Shortly after, scrum half James Telford laid the ball off to a fast running Harry Powell, who drove over in the left corner for Carlisle’s only try of the game. Unfortunately Tynedale scored again shortly after.
A spirited performance from Carlisle, although a full strength team would have won this encounter. Credit to those that played.
