Carlisle U13’s travelled to Harrogate on Friday 25th Feb on the first day of their weekend tour to North Yorkshire.

In the first half Harrogate’s strong pack totally dominated and by half time had run in 6 tries.  In the second half, Carlisle started to regain some control and created a few chances that eventually saw Centre Matthew Douglas run in a try and shortly after that an excellent lay-off from Douglas to scrum half James Telford saw him run in the visitors second.

Carlisle’s third came from Scott Watson, with a strong run up the right wing.  Struan Kyle converted twice.  Despite a close effort from No.8 Will Robson, the visiotrs succumbed to Harrogate’s strength and further scores from them saw saw Carlisle loose 55 – 19.    A very tough game to start the Tour for Carlisle.

The second match of Carlisle U13’s tour to North Yorkshire saw them play Pocklington RFC on 26th Feb.  Carlisle took control from the kick off and produced a superb display against a very strong home side, to take a close but well deserved 10 – 5 win.

This game had everything that youth Rugby can offer, with two very even but determined sides not giving an inch.  The rucking & recycling of the ball by Carlisle was fast and often found the backs running at speed trying to penetrate the home defence.  The stalemate was eventually broken when centre Josh Heap ran a try up the left wing mid way through the first half.

The second half saw much of the same, with Carlisle’s pack not buckling under the pressure of the larger Pocklington forwards.  The home team pulled a try back, but Carlisle reponded later when Heap once again broke through from a lineout for Carlisle’s second & final try despite coming close on 2 other occasions.

A satisfying result for Carlisle against a formidible Pocklington U13 side.
