The Youth section held its annual presentation day on Sunday 8th of May. It’s a celebration event, held to recognise and congratulate the 300+ players and coaches for their dedication and hard efforts during the 2010-11 season.
Guest of Honour and presenter of medals and trophies was 1st Team Captain, Mark Barron. As well as presenting individual medals to all the squad players, individual trophies and certificates were presented to the Coaches Player of the Year, The Players Player of the Year, the Most Improved Player of the Year, and Clubman of the Year for each of the squads from under 11’s through to under 16’s.
There was plenty to celebrate this season, with a number of players at under 15 and under 16 levels selected to play for Cumbria County. Some of those players went on to train with the School of Rugby linked with Newcastle Falcons, and Jack Mitchell was selected to play for North District at under 16’s level.
Every County final from the Under 13 squad through to Under 18 squad had Carlisle representation this season, with the club being successful at Under 13’s, Under 15’s, Under 16’s, and Under 17’s.
The younger age groups were no less busy, competing in a number of tournaments and festivals in the North East and Cumbria.
This success is testament to the commitment of the players and the dedication of the respective coaches for each of the squads who deserve our respect and thanks for the time they give to coaching our youth players.
Following the presentation of awards, the rest of the day was given over to fun events such as the stocks, fun run, fastest penalty shootout, and a variety of fairground games. The cake stall and tombola were busy and the raffle seemed to have a never ending supply of prizes. The barbeque managed by Barry Israel did a roaring trade in burgers and hot dogs all day.
Despite the damp start to the day, the sun eventually made an appearance, and the whole event raised just under £1400 for Youth Section funds. Many thanks to all the parents who ran stalls and events, donated prizes, and cooked food to make this such a successful day. All deserve a well earned rest until the beginning of the next season, which starts with registration day on Sunday September 4th 2011.
