The annual awards presentation evening and dinner took place in the club on Friday, 10th June. Now a firm favourite in the events calendar, with director of rugby, Martin Plummer, performing his usual role of master of ceremonies.
Joining the top table was Sue Pearn-Rowe who is the marketing manager for Lloyd Motors, one of our principal sponsors. Martyn Vevers the local representative for Heineken UK was also present and brought with him a most unexpected, but welcome surprise! Martyn had been able to arrange for the Heineken Cup to be on display, and consequently there plenty of people taking advantage of photo opportunities.
The ultimate accolade of the evening, the Player’s Player of the Year, was won by prop Steve Stamper; this to add to the Barrie Stewart Memorial Award for the best front row player of the season. The dual award prompted repeated calls for Steve to reconsider his decision to retire, and everyone at the club is hoping that he will give it at least one more season.
Club Player of the Year – Lee Brumpton, who was also celebrating the birth of his first child, Olly who was born on 5th June. Congratulations to Lee and his wife Emma.
Young player of the year – Grant Connon.
Most improved player of the year – Aidan Hermeston.
Colt’s player of the year – Carl Robertson
Mike Bewley award for services to rugby – Barry Israel
Old Fart’s award for service to rugby – Martin Plummer.
The Cougars were not as well represented as in previous season, with many on holiday and having other demands on their time.
(Ladies) Player’s Player of the Year – Lisa Ritchie.
(Ladies) Most Improved Player – Caf Smith.
(Ladies) Coaches Player of the Year – Katie Brown.
Special thanks to Bryan Dent and his team for the excellent catering and service for the night.
