Cumbria RFU organised a presentation evening on 20th July 2011, when around 40 volunteers from rugby clubs across the county were presented with signed certificates from the president of the Rugby Football Union, Richard Appleby, to recognise the contributions they had made to the game.

In addition the men each received an R.F.U. “VIP” tie. The ladies also received an appropriate memento.

The RFU rugby development officer for Cumbria, Liam Nichols, read out out a citation in respect of each recipient of the award, before individual presentations by the president of Cumbria, Alan Tiffen and Roger Hackney, the RFU council member for Cumbria.

Receiving awards from the Carlisle club were:

Ben Blain (vRugby co-ordinator, coaching, refereeing, fund raising and a director of the club).

Barry Israel (vice chairman of youth & junior rugby, youth and junior player registrar, catering, club maintenance and a director of the club).

Chris Kersop (consistently good coaching and training in junior rugby over a long period of time).

David Morton (previously club fixture secretary (14 years) now the club secretary (4 years) and senior player registrar in addition to his duties as the secretary of Cumbria RFU Discipline Panel for 18 years. Is also a director of the club).

Martin Plummer (player, coaching, fund raising, refereeing, director of rugby at the club, coaching with Cumbria RFU under 20 team and as a former chairman of the Cumbria RFU competitions committee. Is also a director of the club).

Katie Wilson (chairman of ladies rugby at Carlisle, and a leading light intrying to develop the women’s game throughout the county).
