Carlisle U14’s travelled all the way to Billingham on Sunday 16th October, and in a close game lost 19 – 15.
The home side started strongly and for the first 10mins there was no score, despite the fact that Carlisle had to defend well as they got pinned down in their own 22. Eventually the home side broke through to score and convert. Billingham quickly came back at Carisle to score their second, which did not get converted, to make it 12 – 0.
Before the break Carlisle started to find their stride and a try by Charlie Pearson was converted by Struan Kyle, to make it 12 – 7.
The second half saw Carlisle start strongly and they forced a penalty against the home team, which Kyle converted. However, Carlisle never managed to capitalise on their strength and eventually the home side broke through again to run in a try beneath the posts, which they converted.
The visitors persevered and good recycled ball out wide to winger Scott Watson saw him run in a try out wide, which did not get converted. A penalty conceded at the try saw Carlsile kick off and despite solid defence from Carlisle the game ended without them managing to threaten Billingham.
The game was very positive and a good exhibition of youth rugby from both sides.
