Carlisle U14’s hosted Sunderland on Sunday 2nd October, and came away with a win, 29 – 12.
Sunderland’s large pack kept Carlisle busy from the start and a strong driving resulted in an early try, right beneath the posts which they duly converted. 0 – 7
Carlisle came back and gradually began to take control at the rucks and scrums to drive Sunderland into their own half, from where a determined drive by No.8 Will Robson took him over the line to score. Struan Kyle converted. 7 – 7
Persistent recycling from the ruck and open play resulted in Carlisle stealing another try just on halftime, when Fly half Kyle’s strong run took him over. The conversion was missed. 12 – 7 Half time
The second half saw Carlisle take the upper hand and a quick pick up from the ruck by flanker Guy Graham saw him off load to scrum half James Telford who ran in Carlisle’s 4th try out on the left, which did not get converted. 17 – 7
Two more tries came to the home side before the end. The first again came after a blistering run from before the half way line by winger Scott Watson, who opened up the visitors defence and then pass to a fast moving Kyle who weaved his way through to his second try. He then converted. Finally second row Harry Powell’s strong run from the half way line up the left side gave Carlisle their 5th try.
Final score 29 – 12.
