Carlisle travelled to Ponteland on Sunday 27th November and despite being behind at half time, put in a great display to come home the victors by 32 – 17.

In windy conditions Carlisle’s fitness appeared to give them edge in the last quarter enabling them to put the pressure on the home side.

Ponteland’s large forwards quickly showed Carlisle that they meant business, with strong play and good recycling from the ruck which pegged the visitors back in their own 22, which eventually saw them run in their first try within two minutes.

For the first 15 minutes it continued to be all Ponteland, with their pack dominating and Carlisle hardly seeing any of the ball.

The visitors defence managed to hold on and from a scrum on the half way line, the ball went out to inside centre Will Robson who powered his way through the home defence and despite several Ponteland players trying to hold on, he managed to drop over the line for Carlisle’s first.

A second try soon followed from the home side, after they took a quick penalty, catching Carlisle’s defence knapping, which they ran in below the posts & subsequently converted.   12 – 5 to the home side.

Just before half  time good hands & recycling from another scrum eventually saw a determined drive from Carlisle’s forwards succeed in getting flanker Guy Graham to drop over.

12 – 10 at half time.

The second half was just as exciting as the first, with nothing between the teams at the scrums and line outs.  Both teams’ working hard in defence with some superb tackling, however a break from the back of a scrum saw No.8 Harry Powell score Carlisle’s third.  This was followed soon after by Ponteland pulling one back.

In the last 15 minutes Carlisle’s fitness seemed to give them an edge and three more tries were ran in by Powell & Robson again, along with a try from full back Charlie Pearson.  Struan Kyle converted one as well, to seal a very well earned victory.

Everyone of the Carlisle players gave their best in what was a very entertaining game.
