Carlisle were at home on Sunday 13th November and hosted Tynedale.  In a hard fought contest, Carlisle went down to a 22-30 points defeat.

Tynedale kicked off and within 2 minutes they drew in the Carlisle defence and good handling out wide saw them run in a try down the left side.  Carlisle responded with solid work at the scrums, but again, the defence soon got drawn in again & Tynedale threw the ball out to the left and ran in their second.  A third followed after Carlisle had the visitors pinned back in their own 22, but a turn over ball once again saw them break away at speed and score.

Carlisle did not give up and eventually held Tynedale in their 22.  Quick hands from the scrum, saw winger Charles Armstrong drive for the line out on the left.  Before half time Tynedale’s speed out wide again beat Carlisle, to make it 5 – 20.
Carlisle’s peristance eventually saw Tynedale pushed back into their own half, making the visitors work hard to defend.  Two more tries came from the visitors but despite this Carlisle started to come more into the game and a try by full back Charlie Pearson was soon followed by another fine move from the scrum, when prop Harry Powell off loaded to winger Marc Gallimore who ran the ball in out on the right.  Struan Kyle converted.

The home side were by now playing much more confidently, and after coming close a few times, a quickly re-cycled ball released scrum half James Telford who passed to fly half Struam Kyle.  He then powered his way from before the half way line, to outrun the Tynedale defence and land Carlisle’s fourth try of the afternoon.  It didn’t get converted.

Unfortunately for Carlisle, they were not able to capitalise on their improved performance when time ran out.  Final score 22 – 30.

A good game of rugby from both teams.  If Carlisle had been switched on a little earlier and started the way they finished off, the result may have been completely different.
