Carlisle Rugby Football Club sadly announce the death of former club president and local solicitor, David Burnett.

David Burnett

David Burnett who died on Thursday 22nd December 2011

David, a former player, committee man and club president,  died on Thursday following a long illness.

The thoughts of all at the club are with his family, especially his daughter Angela and his sons Michael and Martin, both of whom also played for Carlisle in recent times.

This news follows the death of David’s wife, Phil  in September after losing her battle with cancer.

David, a Carlisle solicitor, was one of life’s characters, and was a well known personality in the city and around the rugby club, where he continued to act as  legal advisor until shortly before his death.

David Morton, Club Secretary said;

“Perhaps he could be described as a mildy enigmatic, if sometimes unconventional person,  who was always his own man”.

“He was often to be seen around the club in a ‘T’ shirt, shorts and trainers, where his knowledge and advice was much valued”.

“He was popular with all age groups and will be a huge loss to all connected with the club”.

Arrangements for David’s funeral have not yet been finalised but details will be posted here as soon as they are known.

This sad news follows the announcement in September of the death of Bill Swarbrick.
