Perfect weather at Warwick Road saw Carlisle under 15s beat a strong visiting Wigton side in their second fixture of the season.

Carlisle started really brightly with a forwards move and ruck resulting in the ball making it out to Yousef Sahib on the left wing. Sahib passed back inside then looped right round behind the line to re-appear on the right wing, take the pass and run into the corner with only two minutes gone.

Unfortunately as he tried to convert his try he tweaked a groin and missed the rest of the first half. Despite the bright start, it was a further 15 minutes before Carlisle capitalised on their early success to run in a second try.

Ben McKean had already come close with an earlier kick and chase but this time he was able to chase through the defence after his intelligent kick to touch down. The second Carlisle try galvanised the visitors as strong work by the Wigton forwards saw them maintain possession and push into Carlisle’s half.

The hard work paid off and they picked up two tries and a conversion to go in at half time with a two point lead. At half time, Sahib returned to the game, Carlisle switched some of their pack round and this paid dividends as the backs created the space for Sam Windess  to get on the end of a move for his first score of the day.

Ben Johnson duly converted and Carlisle regained the lead. Some really entertaining play from both sides ensued and honours were pretty even in the early part of the half before Windess got a second try and finally sealed a solid victory 27-12 as he completed his hatrick.
