On Sunday 1st April four youngsters from Carlisle Rugby Club made the trip north to Murrayfield in Edinburgh to represent Newcastle Falcons.

Brett Connon, Luke Davison, Mark Forster and James Robson represented the academy side, who challenged a strong and physical Scotland Under 16 side.

The selection comes at the end of a very successful season for each of the players. Connon, Forster and Robson (all of Austin Friars School) went on to represent the newly formed combined counties side back in December.

Whilst Davison of St Benedicts School, Whitehaven has benefited from a Rugby League scholarship with Warrington Wolves.

Although Newcastle lost the game by six tries to one each player played their part it what was a very enjoyable fixture with good running rugby on show from both teams. The Scottish pack were particularly dominant around the park, although they did struggle at the scrum and particularly from the pressure of the Newcastle front row!

Carlisle chairman of youth rugby, Ben Blain made the journey to Murrayfield and commented; “Each of the players should be very proud of their achievements from Sunday’s game and the season so far.

Over the last three years I have worked with a group of guys who constantly give 100% effort and commitment whilst always turning up with the appropriate attitude to learn, improve and appreciate their other team members. They have been a pleasure to coach.

As a club Carlisle RFC are particularly proud of the standards achieved and say a big thank you to the coaches who have brought these players through.”
