Following a successful display in the semi final against Kirkby Lonsdale, Carlisle faced what would be an even tougher test against a strong Keswick outfit in the final of this years Cumbria Cup competition.

Played at Winters Park on a day were the weather couldn’t have been more mixed Carlisle kicked off playing with the wind. The first few minutes were scrappy and loose play and mistakes allowed Keswick to gain a bit of momentum.

However, this was short lived as the Carlisle Pack took control and were dominant from the first scrum. The front row of Fuller, Percival and Forster each played their part all game and relished every opportunity to put their 45 stone front row to good use!

Both sides started to play and were getting more into the game. Some loose Carlisle defending allowed Keswick to get on the outside to cause some threatening opportunities. The green and golds obviously wanted to play with flair and running as they tried to play out at every opportunity. They used their pace well to get on the outside and behind the Carlisle defence. Good covering tackling from Tom Coulthard kept the score line at 0-0.

Carlisle then started to work their way into the game more and more and on fifteen minutes the Keswick Defence infringed and referee John Rogers awarded a penalty in the 22. Connon had his first shot at goal and neatly converted 3-0. From the kick off the Carlisle pack worked their way up field. Good line breaks through the centre from Freddie Campbell Graham put Carlisle on the front foot. They worked their way into the Keswick 22.

Good vision from Jason Israel found Brett Connon with a wide pass who then fed Lewis Fuller. A neat off load to Tom Coulthard saw him find the gap and race over for the first try! Connon converted 10-0.
