Junior Rugby Registration

Kids rugby242 130x150 Junior Rugby RegistrationPrior to the annual youth registration day on Sunday, 6th September, an invitation was extended to all youngsters to come along and give the game a try.

Registration for all age groups was from 10.30 am at our Warwick Road headquarters.

New players can look forward to training sessions before deciding whether they want to continue for the rest of the season.

The club has excellent facilities and provides expert coaching, running teams from as young as five.  Membership for the whole season is £20, although there is an additional affordable annual coaching and training fee that varies according to the age group.

Youth chairman, Ian Scott said: ” Rugby is a great game for children of all ages and ability.  There is a place for everyone, and children who get involved find that they develop a team spirit, camaraderie and love of sport that will live with them forever.

“I know some kids and their parents are concerned about the physical contact side of the game  -  but safety is our prime concern.

“Our coaches are all RFU accredited and have the expertise to ensure the kids learn the techniques and skills they need to play well and play safe.  Our youngest age groups play a non contact version of tag rugby, something that is great fun.  Tackling and other skills are introduced gradually to prepare children for the full contact game at under 10 level.

“We aspire to be the best youth section in the north west, and in recent seasons our efforts off the field have been rewarded through real success for our youngsters on it.

“We would love to see more players join us and be part of our success.”

The structured season provides a framework for participants at all levels in clubs and schools to develop their involvement in the sport through a balance of matches (competitive and friendly) and development of skills and training.

The following youth structured season table for 2009/2010 should help to get this balance right.

Junior & Youth AGM

The junior and youth section held their AGM at the Club on Wednesday15th July.

Kids tackling 129x150 Junior & Youth AGMThe club chairman of rugby, Martin Plummer, and the club secretary, David Morton, attended.

Thanks were expressed to Moira Fisher for her hard work during her year as secretary of the section.  As a farmer’s wife, it could be said that Moira “took the bull by the horn’s” with her unfussy efficiency, by keeping everyone up to date and ensuring that all matters were dealt with promptly.

The Club are grateful for the excellent work she has done, and very grateful for her efforts.  Moira stood down at the meeting due to the pressure of other committments.  In fairness though, she did say when she took up her appointment, that would only be for one year.

Although another secretary has been appointed, again it is only as an interim measure until we can find someone who is happy to give a longer term committment.

With Ian Scott already chairman (having been nominated by the Rugby Committee), and although the terms of reference for the Junior & Youth Section do not provide for a vice chairman, it was clearly the wish of the meeting that there should be a vice chairman of the section.  The club secretary agreed to arrange for alterations to be made for the necessary changes to be reflected in the terms of reference.

Appointments:

Vice Chairman  -  BARRY ISRAEL
Secretary  -  FIONA TAYLOR
Fixture Secretary  -  BARRY ISRAEL
Registration Officer  -  BARRY ISRAEL
Press Officer  -  STEVE PARK
Welfare Officer  -  SUE SCOTT (subject to her agreeing to continue – on holiday at time of meeting)
Fund Raising / Sponsorship  -  SUE GLENDINNNING

Other representatives on the committee will be one person from each age group.
